PROPOSED CAPITAL GAINS TAX RATES MAKES U.S. 2ND HIGHEST OF ANY COUNTRY
The Biden Administration’s proposed capital gains tax of 43.4% would move the U.S. to the 3rd highest rate of any country.
The Tax Foundation estimates that including state taxes, the unweighted U.S. average would increase to 48.4%, moving to the 2nd highest rate of any country.
The current unweighted U.S. average capital gains tax rate is 29.0%.
The 7 states holding the highest capital gains tax rates of any country are led by California at 56.7%, New York at 54.3%, New Jersey at 54.2%, Minnesota and Oregon at 53.3%, Washington D.C. at 42.4%, and Vermont at 52.2%.
